PELHAM — A local woman is due in court next week to face a driving under the influence charge, the result of her arrest over the weekend following a crash involving a tree on Patriot Drive.

Police said Darice Famolare, 40, a Pelham resident whose street address wasn’t provided, was charged with the misdemeanor offense at the conclusion of a police investigation.

Officers were called around 3:30 p.m. to the area of 34 Patriot Drive by witnesses reporting a car had struck a tree, and the driver was allegedly trying to flee the scene, police said.

Patriot Drive runs off Marsh Road — Route 111A — in the southern part of town, just north of the intersection of Marsh Road and Mammoth Road, which is Route 128.

Upon arrival, the officers located a 2016 Kia Sorento sitting about 20 feet from the tree with what police called “significant front end damage.”

The impact stripped bark from the tree, and left broken pieces of the car at the base of the tree.

Witnesses told police the car “was driving all over the road just prior” to the crash, police said. One witness, they said, watched the car “almost hit another vehicle head-on.”

Following her arrest, Famolare, who wasn’t injured, was booked on the charge at police headquarters and later released on personal recognizance bail.

She is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 27 at Salem district court.
