HUDSON – While no official update has been publicly issued on the conditions of the two teenagers who sustained serious injuries in last week’s crash involving a dump truck, members of the Hudson Police Collision Investigation Reconstruction Team and representatives of state police Troop G continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.

Police said the 16-year-old driver of the Toyota Avalon and his 15-year-old passenger, neither of whom were identified by police, were seriously injured when the car and a 2007 Volvo dump truck collided at the intersection of Dracut, Sanders and Pine roads around 10 a.m. Thursday.

While the 16-year-old was transported by Hudson Fire Department ambulance to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua for treatment of “possible serious bodily injury,” police said, the passenger was flown by medical helicopter to Tufts Memorial Medical Center suffering from “life-threatening injuries.”

The driver of the dump truck, Robert Spadjinske, 57, of the Cheshire County town of Troy, was tended to by medical personnel at the scene, but he declined further treatment, police said.

Police said their initial investigation indicated that the Toyota was traveling east on Pine Road, approaching the stop sign at the intersection of Pine and Dracut roads.

Upon reaching the intersection, the driver, according to police, “attempted to cross Dracut Road onto Sanders Road.”

At the same time, Spadjinske, the operator of the dump truck, was driving north on Dracut Road, police said, and when it reached the intersection of Dracut, Sanders and Pine roads, the vehicles collided.

The impact sent both vehicles onto the large front lawn of 72 Dracut Road, with the car coming to rest about 10 yards from the residence. The truck came to a stop about five yards from the car.

Hudson firefighters extricated the passenger from the heavily damaged car while medical personnel worked to stabilize him.

In the meantime a landing zone for the medical helicopter was set up near St. Kathryn Church, roughly a half-mile north of the crash scene, where crews transferred the teen from the ambulance to the helicopter for transport to Tufts.
