NH city approves plan to spare beloved park from flooding
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — The City Council in a coastal New Hampshire city has approved changes to a park that are aimed to protect one of its most beloved public spaces from flooding.
The changes to Portsmouth’s Prescott Park Master Plan included a recommended $3 million in spending to prevent the flooding. The park is located on the banks of the Piscataqua River.
The city was motivated to make the changes due to threats such as rising water and climate change, the Portsmouth Herald reported.
The park is home to plays and concerts during the summer, though those were canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
