Santa heading to Nashua for Saturday’s ‘COVID-compliant’ Greeley Park meet-and-greet

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Reporter | Nov 30, 2020

NASHUA – The necessary, but nevertheless disappointing, decision to cancel this year’s Winter Holiday Stroll, which became yet another casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic, saddened thousands of Greater Nashua folks, but also deprived a pair of regular guests from faraway their annual visit to Nashua.

But all is not lost, because the guests – Santa and Mrs. Claus – will soon be arriving in town for a special “COVID-compliant” visit with all those boys and girls who have been good all year long.

The annual event, “Santa in the Park,” might “look a little different this year” due to the necessary COVID-19 precautions, “but it should be fun for all our young residents,” according to Jeff DiSalvo, a program coordinator with the city’s Parks & Recreation Department.

This year, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be greeting pint-sized visitors in “socially-distanced” fashion at the Greeley Park Bandshell from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

There, kids can get their photo taken, then proceed across the bandshell stage to receive a gift and a candy cane.

They can also bring along their Christmas list, which they can put into Santa’s special mailbox.

The necessary precautions include wearing masks or facial coverings while waiting in line, but kids can remove the mask when they get their photo taken, but the must put it back on immediately, DiSalvo said.

He added that social distancing will be in place in order to “help make this a fun and safe event for everyone.”
