NEW ALBANY, Ohio – Alene Candles, one of the nation’s leading full-service contract and private-label candle manufacturers with a facility in Milford, marked the opening of its second facility in New Albany, Ohio, on Tuesday. The new $30 million, 280,000-square-foot facility, located in the New Albany International Business Park’s Personal Care and Beauty Innovation Campus, has created 58 jobs, which will contribute $2.5 million annually in salaries and wages to the local economy.

“When we first envisioned expanding our footprint in New Albany, we knew we could offer the community more good-paying jobs at a company that cares deeply about its employees,” said Rod Harl, President and CEO of Alene Candles. “And while that has not changed, so much else has. We are incredibly grateful to be part of a community that lifts each other up, as we have seen countless times during this pandemic. This new facility represents our long-term commitment to the extraordinary community of New Albany.”

Alene Candles, headquartered in Milford, New Hampshire, has experienced sustained growth since opening its first facility in New Albany in 2012, increasing production four-fold over that time. To support that continued growth, the company has built this new facility on the southeast corner of Harrison Road and Innovation Campus Way, approximately one mile away from its first local manufacturing facility located at 8860 Smith’s Mill Road.

“Alene Candles is a New Albany success story and it’s exciting to see the growth,” said New Albany Mayor Sloan Spalding. “Business retention and expansion is absolutely crucial, especially as we look to provide more services during the coronavirus pandemic and come out the other side stronger. It’s gratifying to see Alene Candles continue investing in and committing to our community in numerous ways.”

Alene Candles employs nearly 180 people in the Columbus area, contributing a total of $7.2 million in salaries and wages to the local economy. Alene’s local workforce expands to more than 500 at the start of the holiday production season in summer.

“Seeing how some companies, like Alene Candles, quickly transformed to meet the moment with the coronavirus pandemic was truly inspiring,” said Cherie Nelson, Executive Director, New Albany Chamber of Commerce. “Alene Candles worked diligently to meet a community need by assembling and donating face shields to community first responders and frontline workers, and then led the pack in creating a safe environment so all employees could return to work. This is the kind of company we want in New Albany, and we can’t wait to see what the organization does next.”

Alene Candles transformed its New Albany, Ohio, and Milford, New Hampshire, production facilities earlier this year to assemble 60,000 face shields, helping with the critical personal protective equipment shortage across the country. Alene Candles donated the face shields to more than 200 community organizations in 12 states free of charge. Nearly 40 Alene team members volunteered their time to assemble the face shields, as the nearly 400 associates in New Hampshire and Ohio continued to receive paychecks while candle making operations were closed.
