Nashua hazardous waste collection set for Saturday morning at Crown Street lot

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Reporter | Sep 30, 2020

NASHUA – Residents of Nashua and 10 surrounding towns have the opportunity to dispose of their household hazardous waste materials between 8 a.m. and noon on Saturday.

The collection will take place at 25 Crown St., the city’s newest park-and-ride lot, officials said. They remind residents that collection days no longer take place at their former site at the Department of Public Works garage on Stadium Drive.

There is a 10 gallon, or 20 pound, limit per household, and a $15 charge per vehicle.

Besides Nashua, residents of Amherst, Brookline, Hollis, Hudson, Litchfield, Merrimack, Milford, Mont Vernon, Pelham and Windham are eligible to participate.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced officials to implement new safety measures, to which participants must adhere:

* Participants must wear face masks and keep vehicle windows closed

* Nobody is allowed to get out of their vehicle, unless asked to do so

* Waste must be in boxes in the trunk of a car or in the bed of a truck

* No containers will be returned to participants after being emptied

* No public restrooms will be available

* Please leave children and pets at home

Acceptable wastes for collection include oil-based paints, varnish, wood preservatives, thinners, pesticides, pool chemicals, antifreeze, oil-based paints, lithium and button batteries, and driveway sealers.

Wastes not acceptable for collection are latex paint, used oil, asbestos, or smoke detectors.

For information on the proper disposal of those items, contact the Solid Waste Department at 589-3410.

More information on Saturday’s collection is available by calling 589-3413.
