Performing Arts Center group’s efforts ongoing

By ADAM URQUHART - Staff Writer | May 16, 2020

NASHUA – Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the city’s performing arts center is still on track, with a few recent design change proposed.

The changes were outlined at a special Board of Aldermen meeting last week.

Before bringing the changes to the BOA, the Performing Arts Center steering committee convened to approve the new design elements.

Chair of the steering committee Rich Lannan said the architect and Harvey Construction proposed lowering the balcony for safety improved sightlines.

“It pushes out the wall from the second floor up about 4 feet overhanging West Pearl Street,” Lannan said.

The overhang also could help people on West Pearl Street during foul weather conditions and allow for improved lighting on the street.

Chair of the capital campaign committee Deborah Novotny said the committee still is meeting every other week and moving along.

“Right now, we have been working on continuing to communicate with our donors, with our prospects,” Novotny said. “We’re also identifying and applying for grants.”

The committee is also strategizing on the best way to approach potential donors for the project since face-face meetings have become problematic during the pandemic.
