HAMPTON — While local and state police officers closed parking lots and made sure nobody ventured onto the beaches themselves, a fair number of visitors walked along Ocean Boulevard and patronized various eateries that continue to offer takeout meals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Such window service was brisk and the parking lot nearly full at The Beach Plum, which happens to sit just across the street from Hampton’s closed North Beach.

Numerous visitors were also seen walking, jogging, and playing with their dogs.

State Police Lt. John Hennessey said Sunday that police had “no issues” with people trying to access the beaches.
