It wasn’t quite a glorious late April Saturday morning, at least weatherwise, but participants in the Nashua Parks & Recreation’s annual Horse Pond Fish and Game Club fishing derby didn’t seem to mind a bit. Sponsored by the city, the Fish and Game Club and the Nashua National Fish Hatchery, Saturday’s event, which is limited to the first 75 kids who register, again featured prizes for the biggest fish, first fish caught, and the most fish caught.
Eight-year-old Liam Rol, of Nashua, came away with the biggest fish trophy, having reeled in a large mouth bass. Liam said his secret was using a “large Canadian worm” as bait.
A 7-year-old boy from Nashua who identified himself as Haven took first-fish honors, having reeled one in at 9:01 a.m., just one minute after the derby started. In addition to a trophy, he received a new fishing pole. Many of the participants are members of local Police Athletic Leagues.
