Manchester man sentenced for robbery

By Staff | Apr 19, 2019

CONCORD – Michael MacDonald, 29, of Manchester, was sentenced to 78 months for bank robbery, U.S. Attorney Scott Murray said.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on May 31, MacDonald entered the Citizens Bank in the Hannaford Market on East Devine Drive in Manchester. He then gave the teller a note demanding money. The teller gave MacDonald a quantity of U.S. currency. Surveillance footage was obtained and an officer from Manchester Police Department recognized the robber as MacDonald. An arrest warrant was later issued and MacDonald was taken into custody.

The defendant pleaded guilty on Jan. 7.

“Bank robberies are violent crimes that jeopardize the safety of the public,” Murray said. “In order to protect the citizens of the Granite State, we work closely with our law enforcement partners to identify and prosecute those who commit violent crimes in New Hampshire. I am grateful for the efforts of the Manchester Police Department, which led to the arrest and conviction of this individual.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Helen White Fitzgibbon.
