Elliot declared Level II trauma center

By Staff | Apr 4, 2019

MANCHESTER – A two-day comprehensive review of Elliot Hospital’s Trauma program by the Verification Review Committee, an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons, resulted in Level II verification. This achievement recognizes the hospital’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients through its trauma program.

“Verification as a Level II trauma center comes after years of dedication to elevating our program to ensure the Greater Manchester community has the medical capability in place, 24/7, to care for traumatic injuries,” Dr. Greg Baxter, president of Elliot Health System, said. “We are so proud of the teamwork between doctors, nurses and staff that has gone into making this achievement a reality, and we know it will be a life-saving center for our community.”

Trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma in its current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual.

“The care we can now offer to people who experience blunt force trauma, penetrating trauma, orthopedic trauma, and many other critical conditions is verified by the very people who set the standard for trauma care,” Dr. Jennifer Weymouth, Elliot trauma medical director, said. “This changes everything for critical patients because time is always of the essence. In almost all circumstances, treatment will be delivered here without the need for transfers out. We will also take transfers in from around the state of New Hampshire.”

Elliot’s Level II trauma verification is effective now through March 15, 2022.
