Main Street parking tip: Keep tab of parking receipt for reference

NASHUA – A reminder from the Nashua Parking Department is offered here. The pay-and-display tickets issued from Main Street pay stations have a frequently overlooked feature – a perforated, detachable tab that notes the expiration time for the parking space.

One of more than a dozen vehicles parked along three blocks of Main Street on a recent Wednesday afternoon displayed a receipt whose tear-off tab had been detached as intended.

The paper receipt placed inside the windshield, on the right side of the dashboard, proves payment for parking of up to 90 minutes for $1.50. Credit and debit cards are welcome, as is a pay-by-phone option. An expired meter violation warrants a $10 ticket.

Jill Stansfield, parking manager for the Nashua Parking Department, recently said the Main Street pay-and-display stations are the only locations that issue receipts with the handy tear-off tab. Different methods prevail elsewhere.

“When the tab is detached and kept for reference, it offers an easy way to remember when you need to vacate your parking space,” Stansfield said. “It’s a convenience.”

She said the parking department, based in City Hall on Main Street, offers a wealth of information online (nashuanh.gov/parking). Hours of operation, parking rates and hours of enforcement are posted. Three downtown parking zones, illustrated in bright colors make for an easy-to-read parking map.

Free parking is offered on Saturdays at all city off-street lots and garages. Free parking also is a perk on Sundays and holidays, she added.

Information on parking options in Nashua is available by calling 603-589-3205 or visiting online: nashuanh.gov/parking.
