NASHUA – A city man who plead guilty to having child pornography on his computers has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.

Sean Neary, 56, of Nashua, was sentenced in U.S. District Court after pleading guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of children and one count of possession of child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney John P. Kacavas.

Neary was arrested in December 2010, following an undercover investigation that revealed images of child pornography being downloaded to a computer in his residence.

Digital examination of materials seized from Neary’s residence pursuant to a search warrant revealed numerous images, which had been downloaded through the internet and stored on multiple computers, depicting the sexual assault of children. The examination also revealed images of minors in various states of undress.

Neary pled guilty in January of this year. In addition to his prison sentence he was ordered to serve a period of lifetime supervision by United States Probation & Pretrial Services, under which Neary’s activities will be monitored by a probation officer.

Neary was active in the community, and his arrest came as a shock to many. Neary volunteered with the Boy Scouts, though not for several months before his arrest, and also headed the city’s Mine Falls Park Advisory Committee since 2008.

Police investigated Neary’s known contact with minors and apparently found no evidence of any sexual assaults.

This case was investigated by the Nashua Police Department and New Hampshire’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
