Pappas helps pass legislation to safeguard access to safe, legal abortion
U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas
WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas (NH-01), helped pass two bills to protect the right to safe abortion in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, effectively overturning Roe v. Wade. The Women’s Health Protection Act would codify the constitutional right to abortion care, and The Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act would prevent states from criminalizing, fining, or suing women who exercise their constitutional right to travel across state lines to obtain an abortion.
“Thousands of Granite Staters have written in or called one of my offices to voice concern since the radical majority on the Supreme Court decided to overturn nearly 50 years of precedent and jeopardize the right to safe, legal abortion,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “It is alarming that states can now enact extremist laws that not only ban abortion but criminalize or fine women who cross state lines to seek this vital health care, sometimes in a life or death situation. We must act to ensure no judge or politician can take away that care or a woman’s right to make those health care decisions. That’s why I voted for these critical pieces of legislation and remain committed to protecting the right to safe, legal abortion.”
