Kuster votes to invest in Workforce Development Programs, address worker shortage in NH

By Staff | May 18, 2022

U.S. Rep Annie Kuster

WASHINGTON – Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) voted for H.R. 7309, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), legislation to invest in our nation’s workforce development programs and help fill job openings across New Hampshire’s Second District with qualified workers. WIOA will help expand access to training and career services for Americans to develop the skills they need to join the workforce and help employers hire qualified employees.

“Today, I was proud to vote for innovative legislation to expand access to job and career training for people in New Hampshire and across the country to develop the skills they need to join the workforce,” said Rep. Kuster. “The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2022 will help businesses across the Granite State fill vacant positions and hire the skilled workers they need — a win-win for our communities and our economy. I urge the Senate to take up this important legislation to empower employees and employers alike.”

While the U.S. labor force has grown by roughly half over the past four decades, federal spending on workforce development has fallen by two-thirds. Since 2002, workforce formula programs have seen a roughly 45% decline in enacted federal funding, when adjusted for inflation. As a result, essential workforce development services are frequently unavailable to the people who need them the most. Strengthening WIOA programs is a key tool to help Americans get back to work and support businesses.
