Gov. Sununu’s job approval hits new low in St. A’s poll

By Staff | Jan 21, 2022

MANCHESTER – Yet another poll shows Governor Sununu’s job approval plummeting in the months following his signing of an extreme abortion ban. St. Anselm College released new survey results last night that show the Governor’s job approval has fallen from net +38% (68% approve, 30% disapprove) in June to only +12% (55% approve, 43% disapprove) – setting a new low for his tenure in Concord.

“Every poll for the last several months shows a growing – and significant – number of Granite Staters do not approve of the job Chris Sununu is doing as Governor,” said Amplify New Hampshire Executive Director Craig Brown. “Sununu broke the trust of Granite Staters when he signed an extreme budget last summer that includes an abortion ban, tax giveaways for the wealthy, and a school voucher scheme that sends tax dollars to private and religious schools. Our state is headed in the wrong direction, and we will hold the Governor accountable for pushing an agenda that is harmful to Granite Staters.”

The St. Anselm poll aligns with a UNH poll released on December 22, which shows that for the first time in the poll’s history, more Granite Staters believe the state is headed in the wrong direction than in the right direction. UNH’s poll also shows that Sununu’s job approval rating have reached new lows and is down 35 points since he signed the abortion ban. Sununu’s at 52% approve – 47% disapprove – a new low for his tenure as governor. He was at 68%-31% before he signed his abortion ban. Among Democrats, he’s now at 19%-80%, a 36-point decline since June. Among independents, it’s an even bigger swing – 54 points, 83%-16% in June to 56%-43% in December.

Amplify NH has used a variety of methods to educate Granite Staters about Governor Sununu’s extreme abortion ban. The organization has:

Launched three TV ads (” “The Facts,” “The Pen,” and “Expect”) and a digital program in September to reach Granite Staters across New Hampshire;

Set up a “Stop Sununu’s Abortion Ban” mobile billboard outside of the State House in Concord on the day the legislature voted on the budget;

Flew a banner plane over Hampton Beach and Portsmouth that encouraged Granite Staters to call the Governor to end his abortion ban;

Distributed yard signs across the state saying “End Sununu’s Abortion Ban,” including in the Governor’s home town of Newfields to ensure he received the message that Granite Staters oppose his ban; and

Protested the Governor’s Super 603 Event in Manchester with reproductive health care allies and activists.
