Amid high COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in NH, Hassan visits Catholic Medical Center

By Staff | Jan 4, 2022

MANCHESTER – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan received updates today from health care leaders at Catholic Medical Center on how the hospital is managing the state’s most recent surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. Senator Hassan also toured Catholic Medical Center’s ICU and emergency departments and spoke with the medical and surgical teams who are treating both ICU and non-ICU COVID patients.

“The men and women at Catholic Medical Center are working hard to provide high-quality health care to Granite Staters, while also managing a dangerous surge in hospitalizations from COVID-19,” Senator Hassan said. “Getting an inside look today at how our health care system is faring amid this ongoing public health crisis underscores just how important it is that all Granite Staters get vaccinated and get their booster shots.”

“Here we are on the first business day of the new year, bracing for the post-holiday surge. If it’s anything like what we had after Thanksgiving, this is going to be extraordinary,” said Alex Walker, President & CEO of Catholic Medical Center. “We appreciated having Senator Hassan here today to discuss this latest surge and the importance of all Granite Staters getting vaccinated.”

“Right now, we’re at about a 25% vacancy rate for nursing. On a day to day basis this team is trying to figure out how to staff not only for the COVID patients but for those who need us the most. We’re doing everything we can to get in every patient who needs us,” said Jennifer Cassin, Chief Nursing Officer at Catholic Medical Center.

Senator Hassan is working to protect Granite Staters’ health and safety and support health care centers in their work to address COVID-19. Senator Hassan recently joined the delegation in announcing more than $41 million to the state to support 262 health care providers who have experienced revenue losses and expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
