Kuster highlights efforts to protect children and families during Energy and Commerce hearing

By Staff | Oct 21, 2021

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02), a Member of the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, participated in a hearing entitled, “Enhancing Public Health: Legislation to Protect Children and Families.” During the hearing, the Members heard from public health experts about steps Congress can take to bolster public health in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Families and children in New Hampshire and across the country have demonstrated tremendous resiliency throughout this pandemic — while we continue efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, we must also sustain non-pandemic related public health measures,” said Rep. Kuster. “From understanding the effects of digital media on children to raising awareness about cancer screening and testing, I’m proud to be working with my colleagues on this Subcommittee to close the gaps in care and access, especially for our rural communities.”

Kuster is a leading voice in Congress for promoting public health as the nation continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic. She is a cosponsor of the CAMRA Act, legislation included in today’s hearing, that would have the National Institutes of Health research the effects of technology and media on infants, children, and adolescents’ health and development. Kuster is also a cosponsor of the CAROL Act, legislation that would expand research on valvular heart disease and its treatment.
