Man considered suspect in wife’s shooting death dies

By The Associated Press - | Apr 10, 2021

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A man who was considered a suspect in the shooting death of his estranged wife, who was found dead following a fire at his house, has died, the attorney general’s office said Friday.

Manoel Viana, 57, was suffering from life-threatening injuries, including apparent burns and head trauma. He died Thursday night at a Boston hospital. The office said earlier in the week that should he recover, it planned to seek a first-degree murder charge against him in the death of Lynn Marie Viana, 53. An autopsy found she died of a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was homicide.

Derry police officers entered Manoel Viana’s home on Sunday night and found him unconscious and injured on the kitchen floor. They dragged him outside. Police officers were unable to go back inside because of the smoke and fire conditions.

The Vianas were estranged, the attorney general’s office said. During a custody exchange of their adult child at Manoel Viana’s home on Sunday, he invited her inside. Noises consistent with gunshots were heard from within the home, the attorney general’s office said. Shortly thereafter, the home was engulfed in fire.

The office said the investigation is ongoing.
