The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center will host its monthly online Super Stellar Friday series as taxonomist Dr. Catherine Craig talks about her work via Zoom webinar on Friday, June 4th at 7 pm. At a time when species’ discoveries and extinctions are both news items, understanding what makes a species and how we describe them can illuminate what those trends mean for the future. Dr. Craig, whose recent research focused on hermit crab species within the genus Paguristes, will share her perspective on why taxonomy is important and how it can help us better understand the world around us. Following the presentation, she will answer audience questions in a Q & A session. This virtual iteration of Super Stellar Friday is part of the Discovery Center’s suite of virtual offerings during the pandemic. As New Hampshire residents and businesses continue to practice social distancing, adding Distance Learning has allowed the museum to continue reaching audiences and serving as an educational resource for families in and beyond New Hampshire. The Discovery Center is currently open Friday through Sunday and some holidays and vacations by reservation.

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center features 21st century interactive exhibits on aviation, astronomy, Earth and space sciences, an all-digital, full-dome planetarium and a wide variety of science, technology, and engineering and mathematics programs.
