United Way of Greater Nashua planning two unique fundraisers

By Staff | Aug 15, 2020

NASHUA – United Way of Greater Nashua has two fundraisers coming up to combat homelessness.

The first is a skydiving fundraiser on Aug. 22 at Skydive Pepperell. The event, dubbed “SKYDIVE UNITED,” is geared toward the creation of a dedicated fund at United Way to support local youth experiencing homelessness.

So far, this event has raised more than $20K for this important purpose, with more coming in daily.

According to United Way President Mike Apfelberg, “Youth homelessness remains a dogged problem in our community. With over 400 youth experiencing homelessness in the Nashua School District, we feel it’s imperative to have a flexible fund to combat this issue head on. We are so serious about this cause, that we are also willing to jump out of a perfectly good airplane to prove it!”

The second fundraiser, on Sept. 18-19 is United Way’s annual UNITED WE SLEEP event. The funds raised during this experiential, and this year largely online event, are used to support programs which break the cycle of poverty in our community. This includes programming geared toward creating transitional housing opportunities as well as educational programs which help families to become self-sufficient. More information about each event can be found respectively at https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/skydiveunited and https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/sleepout2020.

United Way is a five-star rated charity with GuideStar and Charity Navigator, and has served the Greater Nashua region since 1930. More information can be found at www.unitedwaynashua.org.
