HUDSON – The past few weeks, Hudson-Litchfield Rotary members have heard from a diverse selection of dynamic speakers from several organizations, including the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire, the Homeland Heroes Foundation and the New Hampshire Department of Safety.

More recently, on Feb. 13, Jana El-Sayed visited the Club in her role as Miss Stratham with the Miss New Hampshire Scholarship Program, and as Outreach Project manager for the Granite State Children’s Alliance, Child Advocacy Center of Hillsborough County.

She spoke about the “Know and Tell” program to protect children from abuse and neglect. Rotarians learned that protecting our children is all of our responsibility and that, in New Hampshire, everyone is a mandated reporter. As such, every state resident is required to report suspected abuse.

El-Sayed said more information – and to learn the signs of neglect, physical, and sexual abuse to identify a possible child victim in need – may be found online at KnowandTell.org or by calling 603-864-0216.

This was a very sobering presentation in terms of learning about how many children suffer some form of abuse in the Granite State, Club officials noted.

In addition to her critical work at the advocacy center, El-Sayed also helps to use another platform to spread awareness. This is in the realm of pageants. She is vying to be crowned the first Miss New Hampshire from Hudson, and the Club sends its well wishes and support for her in that endeavor.

The speaker Feb. 20 was Lawrence Russell, superintendent of Hudson Schools, who explained the six school-related Warrant Articles on which Hudson residents will vote March 10.

He gave a detailed presentation about the proposed renovations at Alvirne High School, plans for full-day kindergarten, the proposed budget, collective bargaining agreements, fund retention and roof repairs.

Russell highlighted and explained cost reductions in the current Warrant Article for high school renovations compared to last year’s proposal, which voters rejected.
