Beaver Brook in Hollis to host Dog Days of Summer

HOLLIS – Dog Days of Summer will be a fun and educational event for dogs and their owners at the Beaver Brook Nature Center from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.

There will be outdoor- and health-related information that will benefit people and their dogs. There will be Ask-A-Vet booths, dog food vendors, pet portraiture, day care, grooming vendors, dog agility training, obedience, Canine Good Citizen awards, and search and rescue demonstrations.

A pet parade and dog costume contest will be held at 11.

Featured guest presenters are Chris Schadler, ecologist with the Coyote Project, will speak about coyotes and dogs at noon, and Randy Pierce, the first blind hiker to climb the 48 4,000-foot mountains in New Hampshire with the companionship of his dog, the Mighty Quinn, at 1.

Beaver Brook naturalists will lead guided hikes for dogs and their families at 10 and 2.

There will be a self-guided Storywalk for visitors to follow a children’s storybook along the trail.

In the Shade Garden, there will be a “Paws to Read” area for children to read storybooks to reading dogs and to have their photos taken.

Learn about the services and adoptions available through the Humane Society for Greater Nashua.

Food will be available for sale, including grill-your-own hot dogs or tofu pups on a stick, plus homemade baklava ice cream.

Raffles will be available.

Friendly dogs must be on a leash (no flexi-leads) and cleaned up after. A gift will go to the first 50 registrants.

Proceeds will benefit the Beaver Brook Association and the Humane Society for Greater Nashua. Admission is $10 per dog; humans will be admitted free.
