MANCHESTER – The Workplace Benefit Solutions (WBS), HUB International Harvest Golf Classic recently raised more than $104,640 in support of the New Hampshire Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire’s programs. Now in its eleventh year, the annual golf tournament has raised more than $785,295 to support the one in seven New Hampshire residents and between 21 and 23 percent of children who are food insecure, meaning they do not know where their next meal will come from.

“At first we didn’t think this tournament would even be possible this year,” said Eileen Liponis, Executive Director, New Hampshire Food Bank. “This year has been unlike any other and while we anticipate there to still be a long road ahead, we are more grateful than ever to WBS – HUB and all of the participants and sponsors who came out to support those in need during this unprecedented time.”

The WBS-HUB Annual Harvest Golf Classic took place during Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month, an awareness campaign during the month of September urging residents and businesses to act against hunger. This year 91 golfers participated in the tournament, which took place on Monday, September 14, at Manchester Country Club. The top prize for a foursome was an $800 pro shop credit to the Manchester Country Club.

“This was obviously a very different year for all of us because of the global pandemic that has hit home here in New Hampshire, affecting our businesses, our community and our home life in ways we never could have predicted,” said David Larrivee, Principal Consultant, Workplace Benefits Solutions. “I’m thankful we were able to safely move forward with the tournament to help meet the need of the New Hampshire Food Bank, which has never been greater. This would not have been possible without the generosity of our insurance carrier sponsors, volunteers and clients.”

The need continues to persist in New Hampshire. In 2019, the New Hampshire Food Bank distributed more than 14.2 million pounds of food to over 400 partner agencies. The New Hampshire Food Bank expects to greatly exceed that number this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
