By Staff | Aug 30, 2011

BEDFORD – Mini drivers of New Hampshire got big news Friday.

The first dedicated Mini dealership in the state opened Aug. 26 at 209 S. River Road, Bedford.

Granite Staters who drive the distinctive-looking coupes and convertibles used to have to go to the Mini of Peabody, Mass., dealership for service, parts or new models.

With the help of Lyon-Waugh Auto Group, the owners at the Peabody dealership, southern New Hampshire now has its own showroom and Mini service center.

“We’re excited to bring the tradition of excellence that we’ve established in Massachusetts to Mini owners in New Hampshire,” said Warren Waugh, co-founder of the Lyon-Waugh Auto Group, in a statement.

Waugh’s efforts to open a New Hampshire Mini dealership began in 2006 after he noticed how much business Mini of Peabody received from southern New Hampshire, officials said in a statement. The Lyon-Waugh Auto Group competed with other dealerships for the rights to the franchise.

The Mini of Bedford sales department opened Aug. 26 with an inventory of 71 Mini models from 2011 and 2012, including the Cooper Hardtop, Cooper S and Cooper Clubman. There will also be a selection of used Minis and certified preowned Minis, known as Mini Next vehicles available at the dealership.

According to Mini of Bedford’s Facebook page, the first vehicle sold 1 minute after the dealership opened at 8 a.m. Friday.

The service and parts departments opened Monday .
