Job starts at auto repair shop

NASHUA – City building officials will be keeping a close eye on Bell Auto Repair Service Inc. at 93 E. Hollis St. over the next few weeks after the owner allegedly began renovating the building over the July Fourth weekend without first obtaining the required building permits,

Mike Findlay, the city’s building safety manager, said a building inspector visited the site on July 5 and posted a stop work order.

After the inspector’s visit, business owner John Marino III went to City Hall and applied for permits to install a new rubber roof, some framing and two new garage doors, Findlay said.

When a building inspector returned to the property two days later, he found crews working and the stop work order on the ground.

“I can only speculate the owner took it down,’’ Findlay said.

A new order was posted and work crews were ordered to leave. The city Code Enforcement Division visited Marino later that day, Findlay said.

Marino purchased the business and the Bell Auto Repair Inc. name from Charles Bell on May 27, according to records on file in the secretary of state’s office. The business is owned by Jen-Mar LLC of Hollis, the records show. Jennifer Marino is listed as the owner.

When asked Monday about his dealings with the city, Marino said,“None of it is true. We’re just trying to clean the place up. We’re trying to stop the roof from leaking and add a couple of coats of paint. We’ve applied for all the permits, and we’re waiting for them now.’’

In a recent story in The Telegraph, Marino said some of his customers have commented on how great the business looks since he took it over.

It will take at least two weeks for Marino to receive his permits since there are many applicants ahead of him, Findlay said Monday.

He added that an inspector would visit the business again that day.
