24th annual Kitty Angels fundraiser scheduled for May 5-6

By Staff | Apr 12, 2018

AMHERST – The 24th annual “Power of Angels, Kitty Angels Fundraiser,” hosted by Treasures Antiques, Collectables & More, is set for May 5-6 at the store. The weekend event will run, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year’s fun and exciting event will feature more than 100 artisans and crafters, professionals, food, flea market and yard sale vendors in a county-fair type atmosphere, complete with live entertainment. Back to the Garden is one of the featured musical bands who have generously played for this event over the past several years. The New England Brethren of Pirates, a reenactment and improve troupe, will be back as well, entertaining guests as characters from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, selling hand-made wares and playing fun, pirate-themed games with children and adults alike. Members of the Amherst Animal Hospital, who have helped Kitty Angels over the last 25-plus years by taking care of hundreds of the worst-case kitty patients, some sadly mangled or critically ill and giving them a second chance at life, will be on hand to answer any questions about cats or any other animal, and Mapledell Farm of Townsend, Massachusetts, a traveling petting zoo and goat rental farm will bring alpacas, donkeys, goats and bunnies for petting, feeding and to greet the young and old. Other entertainers and times of live entertainment are pending. Herbal Health demos will be done by in-house vendor Rivka Schwartz.

Some of the scheduled vendors include Sillie Puffs, Arctic Bark, Royal Towne Fudge, Amherst Wellness Center, Dippy Chippy & More, Lu La Roe, NewPro, Forever Clean Soaps, Three Daughters Jewelry and Gifts, Vinyl Revival Record Albums, Pet Pawlicy, Our Creative Imaginings, Courtland Creations, Anthony Acres Kitty Cat Farm, Willy’s Whirlies, Pampered Chef, Scroll and Tole and professional artist Samantha Michalides, who also does commission work and Wickedbones (dog treats).

If you’re looking for some cool and thrilling products that you won’t find in the big box stores, you’ll be guaranteed to uncover a bargain for yourself, your pet, your home or your garden sanctuary. Offerings will consist of, but not limited to, jewelry, pet supplies, honey, jams, syrups, candles, soaps, florals, sports memorabilia and sporting goods, clothing, minerals, fossils, crystals, essential oils, handmade felt and wool products, various “yard sale” items and a great deal more.

Featured throughout the fundraising weekend and into June, is an electrifying raffle of numerous and diverse prizes. The multi-prize raffle always has been successful in raising added funds for this event. All prizes are generously donated by local and national businesses, individuals and some of the on-site vendors.

“Kitty Angels Inc.” is the “pet” charity of Treasures’ owners, Rick and Sherry Tobin. To date, their fundraising efforts through these events, plus various collections and sales within their store, have far exceeded $80,000 in cash and supplies.

Kitty Angels Inc., the beneficiary of these awesome events at Treasures, is a no-kill cat shelter and is made up of all unpaid volunteers, dedicated to rescuing stray and abandoned cats and kittens, furnishing them with treatment for injuries or other health issues and then placing them into new forever homes with compatible owners. They are a nonprofit, 501(C) 3 charitable corporation where all donations are fully tax-deductible and every penny of every donation is used in the caring of cats. Visit www.kittyangels.org for additional information.

If you’d like to make a donation, but can’t come to the event that weekend, you may send a check or money order to Kitty Angels Inc., P.O. Box 638, Tyngsboro, MA 01879. Please put Treasures in the memo line. As always, you can drop off a check or cash at Treasures and they will forward it for you. If you can’t make a monetary donation at this time, but would like to help, material donations will happily be accepted. Items most needed include cat food (both dry and canned), kitty litter, medical supplies, bedding (clean towels, blankets, quilts, clean denim and corduroy, quilted bedspreads), carriers, cleaning supplies including bleach, laundry detergent and paper towels, photocopy paper, postage stamps, cat toys and cat furniture as well as trash bags. You may also donate new or used items for sale in the store, where all proceeds go to Kitty Angels. Only clean, working and unbroken items please. You don’t have to wait for this event to drop off any material donations for ‘Kitty Angels.’ You can do that by making an appointment when the store is open, which is 10AM to 5PM daily. The phone number is 603-672-2535 and the address is 106 Ponemah Road, Amherst, NH 03031.

Special thanks go to Clark & Leighton, P.C. Dentistry who, were kind enough to donate a portion of their land for this event.

This popular and much sought-after annual fundraising event will not only benefit the kitties, but will provide you with fun, bargains, food, ideas and knowledge. Please consider adopting a new, life-long, forever-friend as well.
