NASHUA – The investigation into the June incident in which Rivier University’s Regina Library sustained significant damage yielded an arrest, police said Monday.

Taken into custody and charged with two felony offenses was James Colby, a 36-year-old Nashua man police described as an employee of the university.

Officers arrested Colby, of 18 Oak Grove Trail, on a warrant that detectives issued during their investigation.

Colby is charged with two counts of criminal mischief, which are Class B felonies because the damage he allegedly caused to the library exceeds $1,500, police said.

The charges accuse Colby of damaging tables and windows at the library, but police didn’t specify the nature of the damage or if any other damage was found in the building.

Police did not indicate a possible motive for Colby’s alleged actions, or if he offered any additional information to officers.

In what capacity, and for how long, Colby was employed at Rivier isn’t known, but he presumably no longer works there.

Police said detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division launched an investigation in June, shortly after patrol officers were called to the library on June 19.

Upon his arrest, Colby was transported to police headquarters for booking, after which he was released on personal recognizance bail pending arraignment, which police said is scheduled for Nov. 21 in Hillsborough County Superior Court-South.
