NASHUA – A 53-year-old Nashua man whose car broke down on the Everett Turnpike around midnight Sunday was struck and killed as he stood outside the vehicle, police said.

Osman Konda, whose street address was unavailable, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car that struck him, according to police, was driven by Sarah E. Shaw, 36, also of Nashua. She was subsequently taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

The incident occurred in the northbound lane of the Everett Turnpike at mile-marker 0.6, which puts it just north of the Exit 1 off-ramp.

Police didn’t say whether Konda was working on the car in an attempt to get it going, or if he had called for help and was standing near the car while waiting.

Police, with the assistance of a state Department of Transportation crew, closed two of the three northbound lanes to allow members of the State Police Collision Accident Reconstruction (CAR) Unit to conduct their investigation.

Police reportedly notified representatives of the state medical examiner’s office and the County Attorney’s office, but it’s not known if they responded to the scene.

Police didn’t say whether Shaw was ordered held in jail after she was booked on the driving while intoxicated charge, or if she made bail or was released on personal recognizance bail.

They also didn’t say if additional charges are possible, or if the DWI charge, which is typically a misdemeanor-level offense, may be upgraded to a felony.

State Police request that anyone with any information regarding the incident contact Trooper Daniel Roger of the Troop B Barracks at 223-3849 or daniel.roger@dos.nh.gov.
