School resource officer being added in Laconia
LACONIA, N.H. (AP) — Laconia, New Hampshire, is the latest community to have a school resource officer.
The Laconia Daily Sun reports that starting next year, the Laconia Police Department will have an officer embedded in the middle school. The position was to be discussed at Thursday’s school board meeting.
Police Chief Matt Canfield said the City Council has agreed to fund the position, which will be filled with an existing officer.
There will be an emphasis given to officers who have participated in drug education programs. The officer will start a program called Law Enforcement Against Drugs, which provides training and programming concerning drugs, bullying and violence.
At least 60 school districts in New Hampshire have at least one school resource officer.
