Mom, son charged with murder-for-hire still face civil suit

NEWPORT, N.H. (AP) — A judge has refused to throw out a civil lawsuit filed by a woman after her ex-husband and former mother-in-law were accused of trying to have her killed.
Jean Temple, of Plainfield, sued her ex-husband, Maurice Temple, and his mother, Pauline Chase, in October seeking $2 million for emotional distress. They were charged in July with conspiracy, solicitation and attempt to commit murder, after the alleged hit man went to police. A judge later ruled Chase wasn’t competent to stand trial, and Temple was acquitted.
Maurice Temple later asked a judge to dismiss his ex-wife’s civil complaint, but the judge denied the request earlier this month. While prosecutors said Temple owed his ex-wife money and wanted her dead, he claimed he was set up.
