NASHUA – Nine students were recently announced as high scorers in the Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth talent search. CTY identifies top students across the country each year and provides programs to help them make the most of their academic abilities.

NASHUA – The fifth-grade class from New Searles Elementary School incorporated its “Harvest Party” theme into a successful canned food drive to help out the Nashua Lutheran Church food pantry. The students were given the challenge to see which class could collect the most food items in one week.

NASHUA –Megan Kelleher, a senior at Nashua High School North, has been invited to represent New Hampshire for the second year as a member of the Macy’s Great American Marching Band in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Students are selected from all 50 states to participate in this band, which has the honor of leading the parade this year.

NASHUA – To say that Norah Sutton, director of volunteer services at Hunt Community, was surprised when her name was announced as this year’s winner of the Judith Lonergan Award would be an understatement. Each year, the New Hampshire Association of Volunteer Administrators awards a member for their outstanding achievement in volunteer administration and is named in honor of Judith Lonergan.

HUDSON – Amanda Knightly, of Hudson, received the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s 2009 Robert Ross Personal Achievement Award for New Hampshire. Knightly, 19, was selected for the honor because of her personal and academic success and for serving as an inspiration and role model for others.

MERRIMACK – Paige Kalika, of Merrimack, was a recipient of the 2009 Champions Among Children award. Champions Among Children are chosen each year by the Council for Children and Adolescents with Chronic Health Conditions, a New Hampshire organization that advocates and supports children with chronic health conditions.

Applications are now available for high school seniors to apply for a scholarship award in the Elks National Foundation’s annual “Most Valuable Student” contest. Five hundred four-year awards for the 2009-13 academic years, ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 per year.

Fifteen students in the Community College System of New Hampshire have been awarded $1,000 American Automobile Association Northern New England scholarships for 2009. The scholarship is available to students studying automotive technology on a full-time basis at the colleges.

Jeffrey Dillon, a recent graduate from Alvirne High School, was recently awarded one of the NHHEAF Network Organization’s Take it to the Bank Scholarship Giveaway scholarship of $1,000. Dillon is now a freshman at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, studying justice studies.
