  Elizabeth Clark of Amherst got the audience laughing with the Best Humorous Speech of the night, while Jewelie Lewis of Brookline demonstrated evaluation skills, critiquing another contestant’s speech for the evaluation portion of the contest. Both Clark and Lewis honed their skills at their home club Milford Toastmasters meetings, held every second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.

Free H1N1 clinics to start next week

The state’s first series of free public clinics offering the H1N1 swine flu vaccine will begin next week, but a five-hour event at the Manchester Health Department on Tuesday will be the closest to Nashua. The H1N1 vaccine is taken considerably longer to produce that had originally been expected.

Fireworks are more than an exciting show of colorful lights, they are also a way that community organizations raise much-needed money, the chairman of the town’s Recreation Commission told selectmen last week. There were no fireworks this Fourth of July after voters in March rejected a $10,000 warrant article in March.

Accountant gets more than 2 years in embezzling case

CONCORD – A Milford woman who admitted embezzling roughly $395,000 from two local companies while working as a bookkeeper was sentenced Friday to 27 months in federal prison. Linda Blanchet, 45, of 176 Westchester Drive, Milford, had pleaded guilty in July to bank fraud charges, admitting that she embezzled from Inside Track Cabling Inc.
