Gate City Club solid at Monster Duals

Local high school wrestlers competed for the Gate City Wrestling Club last weekend in the Monster Duals – a dual-meet tournament at the Wadsworth Wrestling Club in Franklin, Mass.

Under the direction of coaches Kris Rowlette and Chris McBride, the Gate City grapplers went 3-3 on the day, defeating the Summit Wrestling Club of Framingham, Mass., Franklin’s Wadsworth “Red” team and the Rhode Island All-Stars, while dropping contests to Lowell’s Doughboy Wrestling Club, the Connecticut-based Silverbacks and Dungeon Wrestling from the South Shore of Massachusetts.

Gate City Wrestling is an off-season high school wrestling club sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua. The Gate City roster at the Monster Duals included: Nashua High School South’s Josh Norman (sophomore, heavyweight), Kenny Kiriga (junior, 120 pounds) and Wilson Pellott (sophomore, 160); Nashua High School North’s Zach Lavoie (junior, 195), Anthony Fiorentino (freshman, 170), Erik Blecharczysk (junior, 215) and Connor McBride (sophomore, 152); Alvirne’s Zach Breen (senior, 132), Taylor Thyne (freshman, 106), Jacob McGovern (junior, 120) and Kraig Hoag (junior, 126); Hollis Brookline’s Zach McPherson (junior, 138); Merrimack’s Kyle Heidbreder (freshman, 182); Winnisquam Regional’s Richard Mills (freshman, 170); Triton Regional’s Jesse Caldwell (junior, 145); and middle schoolers Jordan Rowlette, Nick McPherson, Eric Theriault and Brendan Kendall.


Nashua Over-60 still has openings

The Nashua Senior Softball League is looking for men age 60-plus to play slo-pitch softball. All skill levels are accepted, and players from all areas are welcome.

Games are scheduled for weekday mornings. Practice begins at the end of April with the season running from mid-May to mid-September.
