Weekly Wrapup


Nashua Nighthawks

6th Grade: Nashua 62, Andover Blue 19

The sixth grade Nashua Nighthawks opened the regular season in style with a convincing win over Andover (Mass.) Blue.

Yanis Nyantenji contributed 11 rebounds and led the team with 13 points and three blocked shots. Alex Amigo and Alonzo Linton each contributed 10 points and three steals.

The remaining members of the team contributed in varying ways to the victory.

8th Grade: North Andover 52, Nashua Nighthawks 46

The 8th grade Nighthawks opened their regular season with a tough loss to North Andover (52-46).

Ben Seegel was the high scorer for Nashua with 18 points, followed by Chad Olivier (17 points), Spencer Bergeron (6 points), Shane LeGraw (3 points), and Ryan Penkala (2 points).

The Nashua offense also received support from Jack Barnes, Brint MacDonald, and Garett Bozek, while the defense was led by Collin Morrow, Casey Fisher and Dylan Gamache.

8th Grade: Wakefield 71, Nashua Nighthawks 66

Nashua dropped its second game of the season in an exciting game against Wakefield (71-66). Chad Olivieri had a huge game offensively and led all scorers with 41 points.

Also contributing with points were Shane LeGraw, Spencer Bergeron, Ben Seegel, Casey Fisher, Garett Bozek and Dylan Gamache.

Collin Morrow and Brint McDonald controlled the offense from the point guard position, and Ryan Penkala, Jack Barnes, and Max Serra provided great defensive support and steals.


JR. MITES (3rd-4th grade)

St. Chris Green tops St. Joe’s

The St. Christopher Jr. Mire “Green” came out on top of a contest with St. Joseph the Worker last weekend. team played St. Joes this last weekend.

While the St. Chris team played lock down defense, they showed great patience within their half-court offense, with many touches by multiple players, scoring from inside and the perimeter.

MITES (5th-6th grade)

St. Chris tops PMA

The St. Chris Boys Mites topped Presentation of Mary Academy last weekend at the St. Joseph the Worker Church Hall. Mike Meads, Kyle Fisher and Andre Laplante had big offensive outings, while CJ Barrett, Ben Wadden, Sean Michaels, Peyton Fisher and Chris Bourn were tough on defense and under the boards.

CADETS (7th-8th grade)

St. Chris 50, Immaculate Conception 20

The St. Chris Cadet Girls extended their record to 3-0 with a 50-20 victory over Immaculate Conception. Marie Laplante and Emma Williams led St. Chris for St. Chris with nine apiece and Adaeze Okorie chipped in with eight points.

St. Chris 42, St. Joe’s 40

The St. Christopher’s team improved to 3-0 holding off a late rally from St. Joe’s.

Jack Fahey sparked the team on both ends of the floor and contributed nine points. Sam McCarthy hit a couple of key three pointers among his 17 points and Devin Leonard kept St. Joe’s at bay answering their surge with a couple of big buckets in traffic.



Cavaliers AA 8, Newton A 4

In Valley League Youth Hockey Action the Cavaliers Squirt AA team executed at both ends of the ice to come up with a big 8-4 win over a tough Newton Squirt A team.

Led by the offensive production of Max Sears and Isaac Rogers – each netting a hat trick – both of the Cavaliers forward lines accounted for four goals apiece.

Chris Sullivan netted a goal and two assists, Brandon Hugh a goal and assist, TJ Vitullo three assists and Austin Ciszek one assist.

The Cavs defensive effort was led by an outstanding performance by David Wang, with fellow defensemen Anil Rao, Preston Wilson, Sean Kelly and goalie Ben Goolsby having excellent games.


NSG Level 9 at Holiday Invite

The Nashua School of Gymnastics Level 9 Gymnasts participated in the Yellow Jackets Holiday Invitational in Middleton, Mass., on Saturday.

Junior Division (Ages 13-14)

Skyler Goss placed 9th in the All Around

Senior Division (Ages 15-plus)

Megan Middlemiss placed 3rd in the All Around. She placed 2nd on bars, 3rd on beam & floor and 6th on vault.

Laura Maggioli placed 5th in the All Around. She placed 2nd on beam, 4th on floor and 5th on vault.



The Granite State Rockettes Girls Basketball Club will be holding tryouts for the Spring 2012 season at Southside Middle School (140 South Jewett St., Manchester) on Jan. 8 and 22. third through fifth graders at 8 a.m., sixth graders at 9:15, seventh graders at 11:45, eighth graders at 1 p.m., ninth/10th graders at 2:15 and 11th/12th graders at 3:30.
