High School Highlights: Outdoor track, girls tennis

OUTDOOR TRACK

Sabers sweep both ends of opening meet versus Hollis Brookline, Con-Val

Souhegan opened the 2012 outdoor track season with a pair of wins over visiting Hollis Brookline and Con-Val Regional of Peterborough on Friday.

The Sabers boys scored 93 points to Con-Val’s 61.5 and Hollis Brookline’s 30.5; while Souhegan’s girls posted 96 points to the Cavaliers’ 65 and Cougars’ 25.

Souhegan boys recorded 11 individual firsts, including a school record in the 110 meter high hurdles by Ben Deforest (15.8 seconds). Deforest also was first in the triple jump, bounding 35 feet, 81⁄2 inches. Trevor Brown was the other double winner by pole vaulting 10-6 and long jumping 17-7. Other first places were posted by Brian Dworkin in the 100 (11.6), Tanner Kent in the 200 (23.7), Jacob Kittredge in the 400 (51.9), Bert DeForest in the 800 (2 minutes, 02.2 seconds), Eli Moskowitz in the 1,600 (4:44.3), Andi Coates in the high jump (6-0) and James Tabor in the javelin (135-4).

Isabella Stuopis was a double winner for the Sabers in the shot (36-91⁄2) and discus (94-4). Sarah Hurd also doubled with first places in the 800 (2:31.2) and the high jump (4-8). Other first places were garnered by Erin MacDonald in the 200 (28.7) and Jade Humphreys in the 400 (66.3). The girl Sabers also ran to victory all three of the relays.

Both teams will continue their season with another home meet on Tuesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Hollis Brookline 8, Manchester West 1

The doubles pairings of Kelsey Tulley-Lian Tumas (8-4), Lauren Guetling-Colleen Plesac (8-3) and Sarah Pugh-Laura Sercel (8-2) swept through the doubles competition as the Cavaliers rolled to an easy win on Friday.

All but Guetling also recorded wins in their singles matches.
