High School Highlights

BOYS LACROSSE

Hollis/Brookline 15, Trinity 2

Freshman sensation Sam Whitaker scored five goals and added an assist to lead the Cavaliers. Matt Firmani had three goals and Zach Rotkiewicz had two goals and an assist to improve their team to 9-1. Nick Ullrich, Drew Stamp, and Brad Whitaker each had individual goals and Alvaro Guzman made five saves in net.

Nashua South 8, Manchester Memorial 5

The Panthers improved to 4-5 behind Patrick Goff’s three goals, Matt Lilley’s two goals and one assist, Matt Auger’s two goals, and Brad Radin’s one. Devon Merrick had two assists and Dan Auger one. Jonah Soucy had nine saves in net, while Johnny Bieren was particularly strong on defense in front of him.

Bishop Guertin 14, Salem 3

On the strength of a 9-0 first quarter, the Cardinals improved to 9-4 behind five goals and two assists from Erik Kelly, three goals and two assists from Matt Thistle, and two goals from Brian Donaghy. Additionally, Casey Burnett contributed one goal and one assist, Paul Spinney had one goal and two assists, and Peter Fucci and John Callahan each had single goals. Luke Roever, Mike Astarita, Tom Hurley and Hunter Allen had single assists. Colin Delea and Tom Van Dalsum split net duties, combining for nine saves while holding Salem to one goal in each of the final three quarters.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Merrimack 16, Hanover 7

The Tomahawks won this battle of Division II unbeatens behind six goals from Emily Pollard and four goals and one assist from Nikki Pelletier. Lauren Perry added three goals for Merrimack (9-0) and Courtney Brown had two goals and an assist. Erin MacLean had a goal and three assists and goalie Julia Gladstone made 10 saves in her second varsity start.

BASEBALL

Nashua South 6, Pinkerton 5 (8 innings)

After the Panthers squelched a suicide squeeze in the top half of the eighth inning, Nick Reed scored on a throwing error after Dan McCormack’s single to give South (6-7) the win. Reed, who had three hits and two runs, got the win in relief of Jared Maloney. Don Maffee had a two-run single in the first inning and two hits on the day, and Jim Buckley had a double and two RBIs while getting hit by a pitch three times.

Nashua North 5, Dover 0

Connor Root threw six-plus innings of one-hit baseball to help the Titans shut out the Green Wave. Mike Muise had two hits and two RBIs for North (11-1) and Joe Breen knocked in two runs with his one hit.

Hollis/Brookline 4, Sanborn 3

Colin Pellerin knocked in his second and third RBIs of the game in the sixth inning to give the Cavaliers (7-4) the win. Tim Rencken had eight strikeouts in six innings for the win, while Jeremy Heard pitched the seventh inning for the save. Mike Chase and Ian Fay each had two hits for the Cavs.

SOFTBALL

Nashua South 8, Pinkerton 4

Sarah Peterman scattered seven hits over seven innings, striking out five for the win for the Panthers (6-6). Peterman also led a potent South offense (15 hits) with three hits and two RBIs. Shaylyn Freitas and Jen Gagnon each had two hits and two RBIs for the Panthers.

Wilton-Lyndeborough 11, Pittsfield 6

The Warriors stayed undefeated (9-0) with a dramatic come-from-behind victory, scoring eight runs in the final two innings for the win. Deanna Davidson and Katie Day each had three hits, while Sam Broderick had two in helping her own complete-game, six-strikeout pitching effort.

BOYS TENNIS

Alvirne 6, Merrimack 3

Ian Finver and Tyler Gendron each had singles wins and combined for a doubles win for the Tomahawks (1-10), but the Broncos (7-4) won all the other matches. Shane O’Brien, Matt O’Brien, Travis Terrio and Kasyap Venathumpali won singles matches, while Terrio and PJ Martineau and Shane O’Brien and CJ Destrays had the doubles wins.

Hollis/Brookline 7, Windham 2

Corbin Tulley, Ryan Connell, Sam Mangano, and Gaetan Ciot all won at singles for the Cavaliers (8-3), while Matt Kozsan and Jonathan Gual avenged tough losses in singles with doubles wins, teaming with Tulley and Connell, respectively. Mangano and Ciot won 9-7 at third singles.

GIRLS TENNIS

Alvirne 9, Merrimack 0

Nicole Wilcox and Deanna Trearchis won at first and second singles and teamed up for a doubles win, while Alvirne’s third doubles team of Ashley Croan and Briannah Bellot went to 9-8 (7-4) with Merrimack’s Alyssa Hobbs and Paulina Klinger to preserve the shutout. Other winners for the Broncos (8-1) included Kate Martin, Yashaswani Moparthi, Jamie Martineau, and Christine Buttrick in singles, and the second doubles team of Cheyenne Tessier and Lahari Venuthurupalli.

Hollis/Brookline 8, Windham 1

The Cavaliers improved to 9-3 with a dominant performance against the Jaguars. Naomi Jefferson, Julia Stopera, Sam Razzaboni, Taylor Owen, and Lauren Guetling were all double-winners, while seven of the eight Cavs’ wins were by margins of 8-2 or better.

Salem 9, Nashua North 0

The young Titans team was throttled at singles, but played the Blue Devils tough at doubles, especially the top team of freshman Annika Kossayda and sophomore Christina Mroz, who lost 8-4.
