Six run inning lifts Rox over Defenders

NASHUA - The American Defenders of New Hampshire fell 7-1 to the Brockton Rox on Sunday at Holman Stadium.

Brockton benefited from a six-run sixth inning, which featured RBI doubles from both Palmer Karr and Keith Brachold. Brockton’s Melvin Falu went 4-for-4 on the night, driving in two runs and scoring one. Brockton also received two-hit games from Chris Valencia and Clyde Williams.

New Hampshire starter Alex Woodson (2-2) cruised for the first five innings, putting up five scoreless frames before running into trouble in the sixth. He was tagged with the loss after surrendering five runs, on seven hits, with two walks and three strikeouts. Recent acquisition David Wasylak tossed a scoreless one and two-thirds innings of relief for New Hampshire.

Defenders catcher Zane Chavez had a big night, collecting three hits in five at bats for New Hampshire. Both Jabe Bergeron and Edward Ovalle had multiple hit nights, each going 2-for-4 for the game. The Defenders also received an RBI from shortstop Matt Nandin, who reached base on a fielder’s choice in the seventh inning.
