Defenders 10, Rox 1

NASHUA - The American Defenders of New Hampshire put on an impressive offensive showing Saturday night, pounding the Brockton Rox 10-1 in front of 1,858 fans at Historic Holman Stadium.

After scoring two runs in the first, the Defenders broke the game open with a six-run third inning. The inning featured two-run homers by both Jerod Edmondson and Angel Molina, while Aregenis Tavarez added an RBI-triple. Designated hitter Jabe Bergeron finished the night 2-for-3, including a double, with four runs batted in.

New Hampshire starter Nick Asselin (6-3) was outstanding, earning the win after allowing just one run on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts in six innings of work. Luis Ramos and Cooper Brannan combined to throw three innings of scoreless relief to keep Brockton from making a comeback attempt.

The Rox managed only one run, coming on an RBI-double in the fifth inning by designated hitter Palmer Karr. Both Karr and Melvin Falu had two hit games for Brockton, while first baseman Clyde Williams scored one run.

Brockton lefty Craig Anderson (5-3) suffered the loss, lasting just 2-2/3 innings, while allowing eight runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Reliever Jamie Baker was touched up for two runs on five hits in 3-1/3 innings of middle relief.

The Defenders will begin a four-game series against the New Jersey Jackals today at 5:05 p.m. at Historic Holman Stadium. Luis Valdez (0-3) will take the mound for New Hampshire.

The home stand will come to a close on Wednesday with Camp Day, with the first pitch slated for 11:35 a.m.
