Gillis, Senatore advance in state Junior Golf Championship

The field of 32 at the New Hampshire Junior Golf Championship was pared to eight on Monday, and a pair of local players survived and advance to Day 2 Tuesday at Green Meadow Golf Course.

The action began with 18 holes of stroke play on the “Prairie Course” and in all five area players advance to the afternoon’s round of 16 match play.

Nashua Country Club’s Bryce Zimmerman shot 72 for the No. 2 seed at two-over par.

Shooting 74 were Nashua CC’s Russell Hamel and Sky Meadow Country Club’s Tyler Lizotte, who were tied in seventh.

Souhegan Woods Golf Club’s TJ Gillis was tied for 11th at 76, and Amherst Country Club’s Gunnar Senatore earned the final spot with a 78, and the victory in a 3-for-1 sudden-death playoff.

Zimmerman dominated his match, punching his ticket to the quarterfinals with a 6-and-5 win over Anthony Andronaco.

Gillis advanced as well, knocking off Brennan Hughes, 2-up.

Bedford’s CJ Ladue KO’d Hamel, 1-up, while Lizotte fell to Brian Adams, 1-up.

Senatore was a 7-and-5 victim of top seed Sam Barton.

Early Tuesday morning, it’s Gillis vs. Nik Grimbilas and Zimmerman challenging Adams for a right to play in the afternoon semifinals.
