Pat Pelletier earns medalist honors at State Am
Nashua native James Pleat isn’t the only golfer who has some inside information on Hanover Country Club.
While the former Dartmouth College standout’s knowledge of the course helped secure the sixth seed, Lebanon’s Pat Pelletier (Carter Country Club) utilized his previous outings on the course to earn medalist honors after 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying at the 115th New Hampshire Golf Association Amateur Championship.
Pelletier shot the low round Monday – a four-under 67 – for a two-day total of seven-under 135, one stroke ahead of Matt Paradis (Concord CC; 67-69 – 136) and Ryan Tombs (Manchester CC; 68-68 – 136).
Brandon Gillis (Souhegan Woods GC; 69-68 – 137) and Ryan Brown (Manchester CC; 67-73 – 140) rounded out the top five heading into Tuesday’s Round of 64.
With 36-holes of stroke play qualifying complete, match play begins Tuesday for the remaining 64 players.
One round of matches will be played Tuesday, two rounds of matches will be played both Wednesday and Thursday, and the championship concludes with Friday’s 36-hole final match.
Pleat (Nashua CC; 71-70 – 141) wasn’t the only local golfer to make the cut.
Jack Brown (Nashua CC; 72-70 – 142) and Tommy Ethier (Nashua CC; 70-73 – 143) grabbed the seventh and 10th seeds.
In all, 12 locals finished in the top 64.
The last one to secure a spot was Rob Zimmerman (Nashua CC; 75-79 – 154). He was one of four golfers to reach match play in a five-man playoff at the conclusion of Day 2.
Tuesday’s action begins at 7:30 a.m. as top-seeded Pelletier tees off vs. No. 64 William Everett (Laconia CC) on the first hole.
