Goffstown too much for Concord in Legion tourney
Chris Hood pitched seven scoreless innings and four Goffstown players drove in a run each as Post 16 won 4-1 over Concord Post 21 on Sunday night in the American Legion senior tournament at Holman Stadium.
Hood allowed three hits and walked six, but worked out of trouble, including two bases loaded jams as Concord left 14 runners on base. Connor Shaw (2 for 4, triple), Ryan Beal (double), Tucker Allard and Reece Easton (2 for 3, double) each drove in a run for Goffstown, which remains the only undefeated team in the tournament.
Post 16 will take on Londonderry Post 27 on Monday at 7 p.m.
Sam Bonifant suffered the loss for Concord, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings. Bonifant didn’t get much help from his offense, as Post 21 stranded a runner in every inning except the seventh.
In the third, Concord loaded the bases on a single and two, two-out walks. But Shaw made a great stop at third on a shot by Concord’s Bradon Smith and stepped on the base to end the threat.
Jack Yvars and Sam McManus hit back-to-back one-out singles in the fourth, and after a flyout, Shaw couldn’t handle a grounder by Alex Bashios, loading the bases again. But Hood got Kenny Hart to groundout to second to end the inning.
Goffstown went ahead in the second when Allard scored on a two-out double by Easton. Post 16 made it 2-0 in the fifth on another two-out double Beal, scoring Easton.
David Drouin drove in the lone run for Concord in the top of the ninth.
Post 21 will take on Portsmouth at 4 p.m. on Monday.
