KidSports Roundup: Greater Nashua Elks Soccer Shoot registration still open

The Nashua Lodge of Elks 720, with the cooperation of a Competitive Soccer Club, will be holding its 14th annual Greater Nashua Soccer Shot contest on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Main Dunstable Road Soccer Fields in Nashua.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three in each of the eight groups (four boys and four girls). First place winners will compete in the Elks New Hampshire State Soccer Shoot Championships in Plymouth on Oct. 11.

The Elks Greater Nashua Soccer Shoot is a two-stage contest that represents the skill levels of our age groups: U8, U10, U12 and U14.

The participant’s age on Aug. 1 is used for placement into the age groups.

The Five Goal Contest is a succession of separate smaller ground level goal targets for the U8 and U10 participants (15 kicks). The Grid Goal Contest uses the penalty kick distance (36 feet) in the older U12 and U14 divisions (15 kicks).

The Elks Shootout is open to all interested boys and girls from Nashua and surrounding towns, including Hudson, Litchfield, Amherst, Brookline, Hollis, Merrimack, Milford and Wilton. All participants must register prior to their participation. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. There is no charge to compete.

In the event of a rain postponement, the programs will be rescheduled for Aug. 17 at the same location and times. Volunteers from a Competitive Soccer Club from Nashua will be present to assist the Elks and run skill drills for all youths present.

REGISTRATION

Nashua Baseball Academy

Tryouts for the 2015 Nashua Baseball Academy teams will be held on Sunday and also on September 14 at the Baseball Academy, rain or shine, at 265 Proctor Hill Road in Hollis.

Tryouts are at 9 am for the 10U, 11U and 12U. Tryouts are at 10:30 for ages 13U through 19U.

Features of the program include winter workouts, professional coaches, state of the art facility exclusively designated for our programs, fall baseball program, full uniform and more.

The following teams will be competing in 2015: 10U New Hampshire Diamond Devils, 11U NH Diamond Devils, 12U NH Diamond Devils, 13U New Hampshire Knights, 14U NH Knights, 15 to 19 Senior NH Knights All ages are determined on May 1, 2015. There is a $25 tryout fee.

Nashua Babe Ruth
fall baseball league

The Nashua Parks and Recreation Department will be running a Fall Babe Ruth Baseball League for current Babe Ruth and Ray Oban players ages 13 and 14 who will be 14 and 15 next spring.

Games will be played on the weekends starting after Labor Day and running through mid-October. Cost of this league is $20 for the fall season. There will be no tryouts, and players will be assigned to teams.

NH Grizzlies

The 2015 New Hampshire Grizzlies Baseball team tryouts will be held on Aug. 16-17 at Campbell High School in Litchfield.

The times for different age groups are as follows: 11-12 from 9-11 a.m.; 13-14 from noon-2 p.m.; and 15-16 from 3-5 p.m.

There is a $35 tryout fee with registration a half hour before the scheduled tryout time. Players should bring all equipment necessary to play their positions. A parent/guardian must attend. For more information, call 577-1772 or email teamnhbaseball@comcast.net.

Nashua Youth Soccer

Registration for the Nashua Youth Soccer League fall season is now ongoing and will close Aug. 30. Any registrations received after that date may be put on a waiting list.

The league is open to boys and girls in Nashua and surrounding towns, born between Oct. 1, 1995 and Sept. 30, 2009. The season is tentatively set to begin Sept. 6. Coaches and volunteers are needed. To register, go to www.NashuaYouthSoccer.org.

Northeast Heat Softball

The Northeast Heat softball teams are looking for girl softball players from NH and MA area for its 2015 season. The organization is an ASA Junior Olympic and NSA fast pitch tournament teams.

The season will consist of approximately six to eight tournaments. The tournament season starts in May and ends in late July.

Tryouts will be held on Aug. 16 at Rivier University in Nashua. The U10-U14 group will tryout from 9-
11 a.m., while the U16-U18 group is scheduled from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Also, U10-U18 will be on Aug. 12 and Aug. 14 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Jette and
Sousa Field on 60 Country Rd. in Hudson.

Local baseball coach John Roper has launced a web site called sporttryouts.com for coaches and organizations local and nationally to list event, camp, tryout and other information. T.J. Thompson Basketball Camp being held in Derry

T.J. Thompson will be conducting an Elite Skills Basketball Training camp at SportsZone, 7 A Street, Derry, Aug 11-15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for grades 5 through 12. T.J.’s camp will focus on ball handling, shooting, post moves, footwork, one-on-one breakdown moves, strategy and defense.

Thompson was a four-year starter at George Washington University, on several Atlantic-10 All-Conference teams and holds the school record for the most career 3-point shots made. He has played professionally in Europe for the past three years and established several scoring and assist marks.

Gymnastics classes
at UNH in Durham

The University of New Hampshire gymnastics program will offer gymnastics classes for the community on Wednesday afternoons at the UNH Field House from Sept. 3 to Dec. 10. Classes of all levels for boys and girls are taught in a safe, progressive manner.

The fall session, which is open for children ages 3 and up through eighth grade, features two separate class times: 4:15-5:15 p.m. (Session A) and 5:15-6:15 p.m. (Session B). Each session costs $175 plus a $20 registration fee if not already paid for the 2014-15 school year.
