Local ‘Hoop Shoot’ hotshots end amazing run

Nashua’s three 20l9 State Elks Hoop Shoot Champions, 9-year old Ryan Caruso, 11-year old Ebuka Okorie and 12-year old Joshua Caruso, finished third, third and fourth respectively in the New England Elks Hoop Shoot Regionals in Portland, Me.

The six 2019 New England Regional champions were:

8-9 Boys – Anden Gonzalez ofWillimantic, Conn., 23 free throws.

10-11 Boys — Ethan Whalen, Rutland, Vt., 24 free throws.

12-13 Boys — Will Parkhouse, Torrington, Conn. 24 free throws.

8-9 Girls – Ryanne Sheehan, Woonsocket, R.I., 22 free throws.

10-11 Girls – Kaylee Bagley, Ellsworth, Me., (total not available).

12-13 Girls –Spring Yan, Newton, Conn., 22 free throws.

Now in its 47th year, the Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest has seen millions of participants since its inception, said to be the largest co-educational youth sports program in the nation. It is funded entirely by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Today is last day for Cal Ripken registration

Nashua Cal Ripken Spring 2019 registration is open through the end of today.

If roster spots are available beyond the close of our registration period, late registrations will be accepted.

Cost of Registration for T-Ball, Rookies, and Minor levels is $40. The family registration cost cap is $75.

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL

Nashua Babe Ruth tryouts set

Registration forms are currently available for the Nashua Park Recreation Babe Ruth baseball and softball programs at nashua.recdesk.com.

Tryouts are also scheduled.

For baseball :

Babe Ruth Baseball New Player tryouts are Saturday, April 6 at 10 a.m.at Ledge Street Babe Ruth Field, with a makeup day of Sunday April 7 at 10 a.m.

Tryouts either day may be moved to Nashua Sports Academy. Those who cannot make either day should contact the Park-Rec Dept. by Friday, April 5.

New players must try out to be placed on a team. Catchers must wear complete protective equipment.

For softball:

Registration forms for new players, returning players, and players moving up to the next level for Junior and Senior Babe Ruth Softball Divisions are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 16. Junior League age is 9-12 and Senior League is 13-16.

Senior League tryouts are Tuesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. at Roby Park. Junior League tryouts will be Thursday, April 18 at Roby, also at 6 p.m.
