Hudson 8U travel baseball team reaches state finals

After winning their first 16 games of the summer, the Hudson 8-and-under boys baseball travel team fell to Dover 12-2 and 9-8 in the state championship finals recently in Rochester.

Despite falling behind 9-3 in Game 1, the locals rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 9-8.

The team then shut down Dover in the top of the sixth, and had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the sixth. After two ground balls to the infield ended in force outs at home, James Nemeth grounded out just after hitting a potential title winning liner that was just foul.

However, since Hudson was previously undefeated in the double-elimination tournament, Dover had to win a second game to take the trophy and went on to a fairly easy victory that secured the state championship.

Previously, Hudson went 6-0 and won its first tournament in Tyngsborough, Mass., then went 7-0 in their next tournament in West Newbury, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 95-9. Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict with the state tournament, the locals had to forfeit out of the championship game.

Finally, they won their first three games of the state tournament (including an 11-0 shellacking of Dover in the first game) by a combined score of 34-5 before falling on Friday.

Hudson’s head coach is Mike Laroe, assisted by Ian Nickerson and Mike Geiger.

The roster included Brett McKinnon, Max Francisco, James Nemeth, Charlie Crawford, Kyle Dufour,Colton Laroe, Derek Belanger, Brady Nickerson, Devin Smith, Gabe Conrow, DJ Thibeault and Dante Pirrotta.
