Nashua Babe Ruth team in New Hampshire tournament

The Nashua Babe Ruth Baseball 14-year-old All-Star team is currently competing in the state tournament in Portsmouth after winning the District Title, topping Hudson 4-3 at Concord’s Memorial Field.

The team is managed by veteran coach Jim Sanderson from the Tigers, who is in his final season managing in Babe Ruth after a storied 50 year coaching career.

Prior to the title victory over Hudson, the team had defeated Merrimack 7 -1 and Concord 9 – 0.

Nashua was led by pitchers C.J. Barrett (wining pitcher against Merrimack and Hudson) and Pat McCarthy (winning pitcher against Concord). They were both aided by the catching of A.J. Mele and solid fielding by the entire team.

Nashua also supported its pitchers with a .318 team batting average for the three games, producing 24 singles. That included six by Andrew Patno, who also had a triple; five by Zack Bodwell, and two doubles by Tyler MacQuarrie and Pat McCarthy.

Cal Ripken 9-and-under All Stars

Nashua advanced to the state tournament in Rochester this weekend after finishing second in the West Area tournament in Keene last week.After wins against Kearsarge Valley twice, Contcook Valley twice and Merrimack, Nashua lost in the championship game to Keene.

Nashua enters the tourney as the West No. 2 seed and was scheduled to face Exeter, third seed in the the East, on Saturday. The winner of the Nashua/Exeter game will face the winner of the Seacost/Contocook Valley game on Sunday at 12:30. Other games pit Merrimack against Dover on Saturday.

The tourney extends all of this week in Rochester with the top team in the state going to the New England Regionals in Hudson, Mass. on Aug. 1.

The team includes: Ryan Bourgeois, Ian DeLuca, Abimael Gonzalez, Colin Holbrook, Ryan Jolicoeur, Connor Kozyra, Nolan Mederos, Conor Ross, Devin Sawyer, Nathan Smith, Sean Sullivan and Juan Torres.

10-and-under Red

Nashua lost to Seacoast recently, 10-9 in eight innings in the state title game. But earlier they downed Seacoast 6-2 behind big two-run doubles by Travis Holbrook and Jacob Langenfeld. Issac Zhang was impressive in relief on the mound.

Nashua also beat Barrington 11-1 and Kingswood 13-0. Offensive stars included Chris Keefe, Jacob Langenfeld, Cody Rocheleau and Holbrook, as well as Drevin Richard and River Hart.

Members of the team also include Drew Frost, River Hart, Travis Holbrook, Christopher Keefe, Leo Kopicko, Jacob Langenfeld, Joshua Lentine, Trevor McLuin, Brandon Metivier, Drevin Richard, Cody Rocheleau, and Isaac Zhang.

11-and-under Red

Nashua began state tournament play this weekend in Youngsville after finishing second in the West Area tournament in Merrimack. following wins against Kearsarge Valley, CT Valley, Hollis-Brookline and Keene, the Nashua team lost in the doubleheader championship to Keene, bowing in the second game of the championship series.

Nashua enters the state tourney as the West second seed and was scheduled to face Hudson East, a third seed, Saturday. Hollis Brookline, the West third seed, was slated to play host to Youngsville..

The winner of the Nashua/Hudson game will face the winner of the Exeter/Contoocook game on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. The tourney extends through the week, hosted by Youngsville, with the top two teams in the state going to Regionals in Newtown, Conn., on Aug. 2.

Members of the Nashua team include Peter Bauer, Gavin Belesca, Spencer Champagne, Rory Curran, Nolan Foss, Thavary Hay, Alex Lambalot, Josh Lentz, Varun Lingadal, Jeffrey Lugo, Liam Novak, Jimmy Reel, and Zach Rioux.

USA Baseball tryouts

The USA Training Centers and Mavericks Baseball, based out of Newington, will host tryouts for New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Western Massachusetts athletes as part of USA Baseball’s National Team Identification Series (NTIS) regional identification events held in July.

The 11U NTIS tryouts will be held in conjunction with the Battle for the Seacoast Tournament sponsored by Mavericks Baseball. Tryouts will take place on July 25-27.
