High School Highlights: BG girls hoop stays unbeaten

Girls basketball

Bishop Guertin 66, Londonderry 33

The Cardinals (6-0) stay perfect by defeating the Lancers on Wednesday. Guertin was able to move the ball around and saw eight players in the scoring

column.

Addison Smith led with 14 points, Erin Carney had 12 points, and Hannah Muchemore tallied 11 points. Guertin plays Exeter on Saturday.

Bedford 64, Nashua North 35

The Titans ended 2018 with a win and start off 2019 with a loss, to a powerful Bedford team. Janessa Lofton led the team in scoring with 13 points.

Jaden Smith, Arianna Motivala, and Kaitlyn Laurendi had six points apiece. Nashua North travels to Merrimack on Friday.

Manchester Central 34, Merrimack 23

Theresa Twardosky led the team with nine points, in a gritty loss to Central. Merrimack will host Nashua North on Friday.

Concord 61, Alvirne 50

The Broncos fell to 1-3 despite 18 points from Sara Ruigrok and 10 from Sarah Lavoie.

Maddy Nicolosi added nine points for Alvirne, which will host Manchester Central on Friday.

Boys basketball

Keene 57, Nashua South 49

Casey McNally had a team best 18 points, but the Panthers fell short to Keene.

Michael Rosatano also played well in the loss contributing seven points. Nashua South now sits at 0-3 and travels to Exeter on Friday.

Boys ice hockey

Windham 6, North-Souhegan 1

The Saber Titans got a goal from Chris Weeden, assisted by Evan Soucy and Jonathan Hawkins at 4:23 of the third period, but Windham had dominated the game until that point.

Now 2-3, the locals will travel to Hanover on Saturday.

Merrimack 3, Somersworth 3

The Tomahawks (1-2-1) ended an up and down matchup in a tie. Dylan Sadowski, Zach Stimeling, and Cam Higham each found the back of the net for Merrimack.

Zach Richard played with his head up and tallied two assists on the night.

Merrimack visits Lebanon-Stevens-Mount Royal on Saturday.

Hollis Brookline-Derryfield 4,

Kearsarge 1

HBDS saw goals from Joey Oetjens, Salvatore Vella, Colin MacDondald, and Jared Sanborn; to improve to 3-1. Vella also added two assists.

Others tallying assists were Dylan Terenzoni, Paul Vachon, and Alec MacEachen. HBDS plays John Stark-Hopkinton on Saturday.

Girls ice hockey

Souhegan 9, Pinkerton 2

The Sabers improve to 3-1-1 on the season, by dominating the Astros. Highlighting the win was a hat trick by Shannon Paquette, and collected her 100th career point in the process.

Ryleigh Tobin contributed two goals in the win. Souhegan hosts Hanover on

Jan 9.

Wrestling

Milford 39, Goffstown 37

Greg Gagnon (170) pinned Goffstown’s Axel Cabello, to win the match for the Spartans.

Others outstanding performances were Deacon Currier (120), Rudy Schnare (126), and Ethan Briggs (160).

Keene 57, Nashua North 24

The Titans had a tough go around against Keene Wednesday night. Michael Mathson won by pin at 113.

The other wins by Spencer Whiting (182), Garrett Hillard (285), and Tyler Griffin (195) were by forfeit.

Nashua South 40, Exeter 36

The Panthers cut it close, but were able to take the victory.

Ryan Salemi, Colby Spencer, Aidan Walsh, Tom Cullerton, Nathaniel Tejeda, Nate Zalzal, and Kyle O’Connor tallied win for South in the matchup.

O’Connor grabbed a big win after placing sixth overall in the Lowell Holiday Tournament.
