Hollis Brookline girls lacrosse set for finals

Perhaps, it served as incentive. Maybe, it made the Hollis Brookline girls lacrosse team work hard.

Saturday night at Stellos Stadium, the Cavaliers wiped away every ugly memory from their May 17, 19-3, loss to Winnacunnet, stunning the top-seeded Warriors in the Division II state semifinals, 11-9, to punch their ticket to the state finals.

Tuesday night at 5 p.m., No. 4 Hollis Brookline will battle No. 2 Portsmouth for the title at Manchester Memorial High School.

The Cavaliers will play for a title in girls lax for the first time since 2010 when HB won its back-to-back Division III titles.

Olivia Valentine came up huge in the net for Hollis Brookline, making 10 huge saves to preserve the win.

The key was clearly the start when two straight goals from CeCe Fetter and another from Abby Magnusewski staked the Cavs to a 3-0 lead. It was an advantage that went to 7-4 at the break and 10-6 mid-second half, one they would never relinquish.

Hollis Brookline moves to the finals at 13-4, while Winnacunnet ends at 16-2. Portsmouth broke to an 8-0 lead and knocked off John Stark, 11-5, to move into the state finals.
