Sabers boys, Spartan girls on to tennis semis, Panther boys fall

Besides the Bishop Guertin girls, two out of three local tennis teams prevailed in Wednesday’s tournament play:

BOYS TENNIS

DIVISION II QUARTERFINALS

No. 1 Souhegan 6,

No. 8 Windham 3

The 14-0 Sabers took five of six singles matches to wrap things up decisively and advance to Thursday’s semifinals vs. No. 4 Portsmouth at Amherst’s Jasper Valley.

Winners for Souhegan included No. 1 Matt Lapsley (8-0), No. 2 Sam Goddard (8-1), No. 3 Kyle Gibson (8-5), No. 5 Josh Lacaillade (8-6), and No. 6 Michael Dodge (9-8, 7-2). Lapsley/Goddard stayed unbeaten in doubles with an 8-0 win at No. 1.

DIVISION I QUARTERFINALS

No. 2 Bedford 9,

No. 7 Nashua South 0

The Panthers season came to an end at 10-5 with their second quarterfinal loss to the Bulldogs (14-1) in two years. Anish Kammila played well at No. 6 singles in an 8-4 loss, and the No. 2 Panther doubles team of Derek Lee and Matt Beaudette hung tough in an 8-5 loss.

DIVISION II GIRLS QUARTERS

No. 4 Milford 9,

No. 5 Plymouth 0

The Spartans, playing in their first tourney match since 2004, cruised, earning a trip to Portsmouth on Friday to face the No. 1 Clippers.

Milford’s winners were, in ladder order, Grace Carpenter (8-2), Heather Hager (8-0), Leslie MacGrath (8-1), Sydney Kolasinski (8-4), Katie Brown (8-4) and Sabrina Brown (8-1).

Doubles winners were Carpenter/Hager (8-2), Katie Brown/McGrath (8-0) and Sabriny Brown/Kolasinski (8-4).
