NASHUA – The Pinkerton Academy baseball team has such a good time at Holman Stadium on Wednesday, it’s coming back on Thursday.

Nashua South will certainly hope it fares better in their 4 p.m. clash with the Astros than the Nashua North Titans did in falling 15-0 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule and marred by seven Titan errors.

“We love playing at Holman Stadium,it’s a beautiful venue,” Astros coach Steve Campo said after his team mashed 11 hits. “I think it’s the best place to play baseball in the state.

“We’ve been working on a lot of things offensively, and it’s starting to come along.”

Oh it came along – as in a long way. The wind blowing in saved possibly three balls from sailing over the wall, but as it was the Astros scored five in the second and five in the fourth off North starter Joe Berman, and five in the fifth to back up the three-hit, nine-strikout pitching of starter George Welch.

Doubles by Rich Marique and Welch keyed the first uprising, that also featured some Titan outfield adventures with the wind. Three North infield errors helped Pinkerton in the fourth (as well as Connor Jenkins’ two-run hit past a drawn-in infield), and it was over after that. Astros leadoff hitter Cam Walsh reached base three times and drove in a pair.

Pinkerton is averaging 10.3 runs in its nine wins (9-3). But is that the whole story?

“I have no idea,” Titans coach Zach Harris said. “We took a million ground balls the last two days at practice, and it looked like we didn’t practice.

I didn’t think we pitched poorly. I think we need to make more plays in the field. Our guys need to be better. It’s as simple as that.”

The Titans are now 7-5 but they get to come right back Thursday night vs. Timberlane at Holman.

“Am I shocked? The way we started the game, no,” Harris said. “I thought Joe Berman pitched really well, we have to back him up. We didn’t do that today.”

Nashua South, you’re up.
